The .cf domain is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Central African Republic. It saw widespread international use in the 2010s when registrations were offered for free through Freenom, which distributed .cf domains globally under a freemium model. This led to high adoption as well as significant abuse and spam. After Freenom ceased operations in the early 2020s, new registrations largely stopped and availability became limited.

Prior to the shutdown, some domain holders reported that Freenom allowed manual reactivation or renewal requests via email, in certain cases granting long-term extensions (up to ten years) shortly before services ended. The registry remains officially delegated under SOCATEL, though new registrations are, currently, seemingly impossible.


Technical DNS infrastucture is still managed by OpenTLD BV, aka, Freenom.
