.jm (only .com.jm)

The .jm (Jamaica) registry is one of the very few remaining "legacy" ccTLDs in the world that still operates on a manual, email-based system. It is managed by the University of the West Indies (UWI), specifically the Mona Information Technology Services (MITS).

Manual Registration of a .com.jm Domain

Unlike most modern ccTLDs, Jamaica’s .jm namespace (including third-level domains such as .com.jm) still allows direct manual registration via email submission.

Instead of using an automated registrar or EPP-based provisioning system, requests are submitted in plain text format to the registry operator dmaster@ns.jm.

The registry (JAMNet Registration Services / DOMAIN MASTER) reviews and manually processes each request.

This service operates in a largely volunteer-run capacity, reflecting an early-internet administrative model rather than a commercial registrar ecosystem. Processing is human-handled, and properly formatted templates are required.

Below is an example of a successfully submitted registration template (personal details redacted):

You do not have to be a Jamaican entity or citizen to register one.

1. Top-level domain................: com.jm

2. Complete Domain Name............: xxx.com.jm

3a. Organization name...............: [REDACTED]
3b. Organization address............: [REDACTED]

Once approved, the registry confirms activation via email and delegates the domain to the provided authoritative nameservers.

This process closely mirrors the pre-automation model described in RFC 1591, direct communication, template-based submission, and trust-based administrative review.

In an ecosystem dominated by instant registrar checkouts and API provisioning, .com.jm remains a rare example of a manually administered ccTLD namespace.
